Marvel’s Wolverine has gotten a brand new cinematic trailer that showcases some of the thrilling setpieces Logan will go through in his global fight for mutant survival and has hinted at a potential romance that can a have huge Impact on the story.
The trailer showcases the type of enemies Wolverine will fight, and the allies that will aid him. Sabretooth was shown saving Logan, which might hint at some friendly missions with him partnering with you. Most interestingly, the trailer builds up to an interesting reveal that has left us curious.

It turns out the photo that Wolverine has been trying to catch so desperately is of him and Jean, potentially hinting at their romantic relationship before the events of the game. While their feelings for each other have long been explored across comics and even some of the films, Marvel has also shown them as couples through several comic runs.
It has always felt like forbidden love in the mainline universe, so it’s interesting to see it formally teased for Wolverine’s next mainstream adventure.
To name just a few examples, X-Men fans are likely to remember that the pair was married in both Age of Apocalypse as well as Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows, the latter in which they also had a daughter.
With how aggressively Logan was trying to save the photo, and especially how defeated he looked when it burned, it makes me wonder if they were potentially married in this universe as well. Essentially, the relationship looks to have been a lot more important than a fling.

This has easily made me even more interested in the game’s story, as this has a lot of potential in how Logan’s character is developed, as well as his interaction with Jean throughout the game.
Insomniac has already shown that its willing to rewrite parts of the Marvel lore to tell more interesting stories, such as connecting Martin Li to both Otto Octavius and The Sinister Six, or introducing Silk instead of Gwen Stacey in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
That is why I won’t be surprised if they establish similarly unexpected relationships in Marvel’s Wolverine. Even characters we typically think of villains like Sabretooth, could break away from their traditional roles, something already hinted at by his role in the trailer.
I also think that there’s a chance that Jean will not always be your ally, and her strong connection to Logan will potentially create conflict that puts them on opposing sides, allowing Insomniac to present its own spin on the Dark Phoenix Saga.
Then again, it could all be a red herring, and the image is just a photograph between friends. Either way, we will find out which theory sticks when Marvel’s Wolverine officially claws its way onto PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026.
