Donnie Yen Is Bringing His Martial Arts Expertise To Phantom Blade Zero

Phantom Blade Zero's incredible combat makes even more sense now that Donnie Yen has been revealed as starring in the game and lending his martial arts expertise as a consultant, with pre-orders also officially open ahead of its October release.

As if I wasn’t already excited enough for Phantom Blade Zero, the developers go ahead and reveal that the legendary Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen will be lending not only his performance and likeness to the upcoming wuxia action game, but also his expertise.

The reveal was delivered through a new pre-order trailer for the game where we got to see some new gameplay, including a deeper look into one of the cart battles that players will experience in Phantom Blade Zero.

The most exciting reveal, however, comes at the end when the mysterious masked man is revealed to be played by Donnie Yen, but what’s more interesting is that he’s also credited as a consultant.

Honestly, the game’s amazing choreography is starting to make more sense if someone like Donnie Yen is helping behind the scenes. He has a memorable portfolio of martial arts work both as an actor and as a director/fight choreographer, with some of his recent popular roles being movies like IP MAN, Flashpoint and John Wick 4.

Here’s hoping the developers release more behind the scenes footage of the game, especially around Donnie Yen’s involvement.

Phantom Blade Zero is now available for Pre-Order through PlayStation Store($60/£54.99) and Steam ($60/£49.99) and will release on October 29, 2026.
