Bandai Namco has just announced that Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve has sold a million copies barely a week since its release, making it the fastest selling chapter in the series.
The strong word of mouth and critical acclaim seems to have helped as Wings of Theve is easily one of best reviewed titles in its recent history. For comparison, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown sits at 80 on Metacritic whilst Wings of Theve currently enjoys an 87 rating.
This shows a healthy demand for blockbuster arcade combat dogfighting games in our opinion, something that is really needed in the mostly third-person action oriented landscape of today.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve follows a legendary ace pilot fighting to liberate the occupied Federation of Central Usea. They must team up with three talented pilots to repel Sotoa and ultimately become a symbol of hope for their homeland in the process.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC. A live-action mini-series is also available for people to watch, which explains the setting of the game and its world.
