RollerCoaster Tycoon made its return at Gamescom with the reveal of Wonderworks, the upcoming game in the classic management series.
Developer Springloaded is taking the helm this time, hoping to provide an experience that combines the deep theme park simulation with their playful humor. It will retain the series’ recognizable isometric perspective while expanding customisation and streamlining new management tools which will help with the new emergent gameplay systems.
One of their core intentions was to imagine what RollerCoaster Tycoon would look like if it were designed today while staying faithful to the systems that made players fall in love with the original games.
At least from the trailer, it is safe to say that they’ve managed to achieve that. I actually appreciate that they are streamlining some of the systems and making the game more approachable.
Thing is, we already have the excellent Planet Coaster by Frontier which does a great job with its detailed simulation. So, it makes sense that for RollerCoaster Tycoon to really stand out, it will have to be different. I love Planet Coaster but even I sometimes go back to the classic RollerCoaster Tycoon games for their simplicity.
RollerCoaster Tycoon: Wonderworks will initially release on Steam through Early Access with the full release planned for both PC and consoles.
