Mafate is an upcoming cozy-adventure game where players take on the role of a mail carrier who travels across the mountainous landscapes of Réunion Island, delivering letters to even the most isolated villages.
He is accompanied by a magical camera that allows him to capture meaningful moments and observe their surroundings. The interesting thing about the camera is that it is actually a girl called Luna who has been sent back in time and transformed into it.
Not only will photography be a major part of the adventure, but Luna will also be able to possess native animals, helping players find unique ways around obstacles that the mail carrier himself can’t cross.
The developer Blue Ramen Studios was inspired by the beautiful real-life location of Cirque de Mafate and its mail carriers who once crossed the island’s difficult terrain to keep its isolated villages connected.
A demo for Mafate is available through Steam as part of the Wholesome Games Celebration, which runs until 13 August. An exact release date has not yet been announced.
