Ghost Hunting Journal Brings a Stylish Chinese Spin to Supernatural Mystery Adventures

Ghost Hunting Journal is an upcoming narrative-adventure game that blends modern Chinese ghost stories, supernatural mystery, stunning artwork, and comedic character banter into one stylish package.

Ghost Hunting Journal is an upcoming narrative-adventure game by Spicy Games and publisher Okasan’s Recipe that recently caught our attention. It offers a unique modern Chinese take on ghost stories, and features stunning artwork and animations that genre fans are sure to love.

In Ghost Hunting Journal, souls that are bound by lingering attachments are called “Soul Squatters”. Whilst most fade quietly into obscurity, a nefarious few grow stronger and use their powers to toy with the living, giving rise to ghost stories and urban legends.

Players will follow an unlikely duo of spirit agents, who investigate and resolve supernatural mysteries. By switching between the two protagonists, players can use different abilities to tackle different challenges, needing both their skills to progress through each case.

What stood out to us is that the game contrasts creepy ghost encounters with witty and comedic banter, giving the game a unique charm from the mix of suspense, storytelling and character-driven moments.

Ghost Hunting Journal has a demo currently available on Steam, which lets players get a taste of the game’s setting and characters. The developers have also announced that an update for the demo will be released on the 20th of July, which will improve and expand the experience. Keep an eye out for our impressions piece coming a bit later if you want to hear our thoughts on the demo.
