INGAME STUDIOS has released a story mode for Crime Boss: Rockay City in its latest update. According to the update log, it’s meant to be a linear variant of the campaign, focused on the narrative with simpler mechanics than the more replayable and complex Roguelite.

Players who have downloaded Update 21 can access the campaign from the main menu, using a separate save slot. Unlike the Roguelite mode, it removes things like permadeath and turf war, in order to make it play more like a traditional campaign.

Update 21 overall is filled with new improvements and additions, including an extra-terrestrial themed map that comes with unique mechanics. In Close Encounters, players can look forward to battling aliens in a challenging arena aboard a spaceship under the command of a malicious AI. It features low-gravity movement with some interesting new weapons and abilities.

Whilst the game had a rough launch initially, developer ingame studios have worked hard to improve on the experience since launch, resulting in mostly positive reviews on Steam. To get more info on Update 21, you can read the latest update notes on Steam.

I personally think its a great idea to add a campaign mode to the game, especially since the game features a stacked cast, including Michael Madsen, Chuck Norris, Danny Trejo, Danny Glover and more. This addition will hopefully allow more players to experience their performances through the game’s campaign. I can’t wait to try it out myself soon, and since the game is currently discounted heavily on Steam (£1.59/$1.99), it probably makes it the best time for anyone curious to jump in.
