Undoubtedly, one of the most iconic mechanics in videogames is Agent 47’s ability to disguise himself as most people he comes across. While a few others attempted it, it was to shoddily copy its formula rather than build on it. Luckily, Chapter One is definitely building upon it!
Whilst the game might now be incorporating elements of action, it is still very much a detective game at the core, and what would our world-famous detective be, if not a master of disguise! Sherlock can don different disguises to make certain people more receptive to him, allowing him to get the information he needs.
The key thing that stood out from the gameplay trailer was that everyone is unique in this world, each with their personalities and situations. This potentially will make everyone a potential puzzle to solve.
From the trailer, Chapter One seems to be meaningfully using Sherlock’s deductive capabilities via its detective mode, where you get hints of someone’s personality and their situation via keywords floating around them. Many people won’t be willing to talk to you, but if you can exploit those keywords, you will be able to figure out what disguise or manner to approach them in.
The trailer also introduced a few more exciting mechanics, especially those that help elevate the game’s sandbox nature. So, be sure to check out the trailer at the top of this article. Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One will be available on the PC, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One sometime in 2021.
